Where to Stay in Whitby
The old town in Whitby is one of the more popular places for guests to base themselves when they want to enjoy the town. It’s where you’ll find a lot of the winding streets and older buildings, and there are some guesthouses among them.
Or you can look at the harbour area if you want to put yourself right amongst the bustling part of the town where there’s always a lot of activity. You’ll find B&Bs with sea views available, letting you watch the fishing boats head out in the morning if you’re an early riser.
If you want cheap Bed and Breakfasts in Whitby, you might be better looking a little further afield. Sandsend’s a little further north along the coast, but still within walking distance of the town if you’re comfortable on your feet. It’s a quieter spot where you can avoid the tourist crowds during busier periods, with a couple of really nice guest house options.
Just south of Whitby around Robin Hood’s Bay, there are some other B&B options that offer amazing views out to sea.
Insider Tips for Whitby
- Whitby hosts lots of great events throughout the year, so try timing your break for one of these if you can – though the best B&Bs will book up in advance. Look out for the Whitby Regatta, Whitby Goth Weekend and several steampunk events too!
- Whitby’s West Cliff area and Pier Road are great for a traditional seaside break. If you’re taking the kids, there are classic amusement arcades and mini golf courses to enjoy. Family rooms are available in several guest houses.
- The town has an intrinsic link to Dracula, featuring in the original novel. You can climb the steps to the Abbey to mirror Count Dracula’s own climb, or learn about Bram Stoker’s ties to the town at various attractions
- Whitby’s seafood is excellent, and you can enjoy the freshest catches at many of the cafes and restaurants. While the town’s reputation for fish and chips is well deserved, don’t skip the kippers and crab either.
